Hello, thanks for stopping by.

This website was created to store my maps, photos and notes about the various motorcycle trips I take. I discovered that I had misplaced or lost information about several trips I had taken over the years. Now I save them on this website so I always have them. I know very little about creating a website, so please don't be too critical of my efforts.

The Riders

First, let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Robert and I've been riding motorcycles most of my adult life. I live in Willow Park, Texas which is about 15 miles west of Fort Worth. My main riding partner is my oldest son, Mark. He has been riding for several years. He lives in Arlington, Texas which is home of the Texas Rangers and soon to be home of the Dallas Cowboys. We've made numerous trips together over the last several years.

Riding History

I'll try not to bore you with a bunch of rhetoric, but give a little background about our riding. In 2006, both Mark and I started riding again after about a two year break. We really enjoy long motorcycle tours. Previously, we both rode Harley Road Kings. Mine was a '99 model and Mark's was a 2000. We made several trips to the Four Corners rally that was held every Labor Day weekend near Durango, Colorado as well as numerous trips to the Texas hill country. I didn't care much about the actual rallies, but it's a great location in Colorado. Any direction you go from Durango has some great riding. The last three times we went, we only spent a couple of days in Durango. From there we made a big loop thru Wyoming, Utah and Montana.

Our most recent long trip is now included here. It was a tour of Colorado. We pretty much covered the whole state. We saw some great scenery and I have included over 200 pictures along with the route maps. Go to "Trips" and then down to "Long Trips" and select "Colorado2007".

Mark and I bought new motorcycles in 2006. We went the Sport-Touring route this time because we both like to ride long distance. I bought an '06 Honda ST1300 and Mark bought an '06 Yamaha FJR1300. These are awesome road bikes. We really have to watch our speed on these. The Harleys at about 75mph are close to their top comfortable cruising speed. These new bikes are just loafing at that speed.

Accessories

Here's a little explanation on some of the items we've added. First we installed an AutoCom system (AutoCom) to run several accessories. This unit is wired to a distribution block (BlueSea) which is switched thru a relay, which can be purchased at any auto parts store. It's wired into the tail light wire so it turns on and off with the ignition switch. We each have a Garmin Rino 530 GPS/Radio unit (Garmin Rino 530). This is a combo GPS with a two way FRS/GMRS radio. We mounted a Push to Talk button on the left handlebar grip so it is easy to talk to each other. This unit is mounted on the right handlebar so we can see the route which we entered. This thing is great. If you load your planned route via your computer, you can't take a wrong turn, no matter how small the road is that you selected. If gives you plenty of warning about an upcoming turn. (It beeps at you about a mile before the turn and again about a quarter mile before. It tells you the name of the road and which way to turn.)

On the left handlebar we mounted our Sirius satellite radio (Sirius) which gets its power thru the same distribution block. This is great on the long road trips. Sirius has a very good selection of programming and you never loose the signal.

We also ran a switched wire to our tank bags, which hooks up thru a waterproof plug we installed. (You can get these parts from a company named Powerlet Products (Powerlet Products.) Inside the tank bag is a dual cigarette outlet to power our cell phone, iPOD, PDA etc.
