Route for Day Two - Fort Davis to Del Rio (Thru Big Bend)

Getting ready to head out on Sunday morning.

Taking a break on the road to Presidio. The little town of Shafter is just ahead.

Another shot during the break near Shafter.

This is Hwy. 170 (River Road). It was one of the best roads we traveled. It just follows the Rio Grande on the way to Big Bend Park. The river is below and Mexico is the bluff on the left.

This is looking back toward the way we came. So the bluff on the right is Texas. This is an awsome road.

The bikes really like this road. Mexico is on the right.

Another stop on River Road. You can barely see the river on the bottom right with Mexico in the background.

Look at this road!!! It's too much fun.

How about a bowl of chili? This is where the big cookoff is the first weekend of each November.

This is a gift shop at the Terlingua ghost town. They didn't have anything I couldn't live without.

Ruins like the one on the left are numerous at Terlingua. These are old dwellings for the miners of days gone by.

Panther Junction visitor's center in Big Bend Park. They have a neat topographical map of the park inside. Gives you a good perspective of the terrain.

This shot was taken from the front of the visitor's center.

I realize this picture seems to be out of order, but it's the north entrance where we exited. We didn't stop at the west entrance on the way into the park.

Another angle at the north entrance.

Stopped for gas and a bottle of water at Marathon. This is looking northwest toward "downtown" Marathon.

Looking the opposite direction in Marathon toward Del Rio.

Stopped for another drink of water in Sanderson. It was getting pretty hot so we soaked our cooling vests and wore them the rest of the way. Mark generally doesn't like for me to take his picture, but I think he was too hot to move.

We stopped at Langtry to see the Judge Roy Bean exhibit. I'm standing on the step of the saloon, but it's hard to see me because of the shade.

Inside the Jersey Lilly saloon. This building is the original and is in exceptionally good shape.

The Jersey Lilly saloon has two rooms, the saloon and the billiards room. Both are very small and had just enough room for drinking in one and playing pool in the other.

This is Judge Bean's house, although he called it an Opera House because he was trying to lure Lily Langtry to perform there because he had a crush on her. It sits about 50 yards behind the saloon in it's original location. It is a one room house which has obviously been redone.

This is an interesting cliff on the opposite side of the road from the Jersey Lilly saloon.

About to cross the Pecos River just past Langtry.

The Pecos River looking north.

The Pecos River looking south. You can see where it meets the Rio Grande at the far end.

This was the last picture of the day. It was hot and I was ready for a shower. Plus we had to find a place to watch the Maverick game against Phoenix which they later won.
