Day 2 >>

First half of route for Day One (San Angelo was approximately half way)

Second half of route for Day One

We decided to meet at the Waffle House in Benbrook, Texas at 7:00AM. I got there a little early, I was ready to go riding.

After Mark arrived, we had breakfast and left the Waffle House at straight up 8:00AM.

We stopped for a break in Commanche. Drank a bottle of water and moved on. Had lunch at the Dairy Queen in Big Lake. Not much there.

As I said, there's not much there. This is looking west on US 67 which is the main drag thru Big Lake.

They don't even have trees so we couldn't park in the shade. Next stop, Fort Stockton for gas and a bottle of water.

Weird thing seen there. Three guys, two on Harley V-rods and the other on a 1200 Kawasaki. They were from east of Houston on their way to the Grand Canyon, Utah and Colorado. There was a small bag on one of the V-rods, the other one had no bag. The Kawasaki had the biggest bag, but not big enough for all three guys. I've ridden in Colorado several times and I know they didn't have enough room for a rain suit and cold weather jackets in those bags. I also know that they will wish they had brought them when they get to Colorado. Plus the V-rods didn't have a windshield and the Kawasaki had a very small one.

We had reservations at the Harvard Hotel in Fort Davis. Nice place, only a year old. The ground floor is leased to businesses; coffee shop (handy early in the morning), a real estate office and a hair salon. The hotel only has eight rooms, all on the second floor.

Looking north from the street in front of the hotel. Weather there was super. Fairly warm (90 degrees) but very low humidity. Great compared to home in the DFW area where the humidity at least equals the temperature.

The courthouse for Jeff Davis county is just south of the hotel. Big scare here as it was getting late in the evening. We encountered a BEAR!!!

Here he is.

The bank is across the street from the courthouse. It was built about 1911, I forget the exact year, but it's old.

This is looking Southeast from the courthouse. The parking lot on the left is just behind the bank.

This is the original Limpia Hotel built in 1912. It's been remodeled and additions have been made to include a gift shop and restaurant.

We ate dinner here at the Limpia Restaurant and Bar. This is located just across the street from our hotel. They have a pretty good menu, but the prices were a little high.

They're ready for bed.

So am I. Day Two is ahead.
