This is the route for the day. Home to Trinidad, Colorado. Below, I've broken the map into two sections for a closer look. We're looking forward to cooler weather.

First half of the route for Day One (Claude was approximately half way) We had stopped for gas back at Vernon and would gas up again in Amarillo.

Second half of the route for Day One (Claude, about half way, to our destination of Trinidad, Colorado)

It's 5:35AM at home and my beginning odometer is 10,838.

The trip computer says it's 588 miles to our destination and the elevation at my house is 965 feet above sea level. I don't know how accurate the elevation is because I've never calibrated it, but it's close.

First pit stop. Henrietta, had a bottle of water and moved on.

It's only fair to take a picture of Mark's FJR also.

Mark always wanted to be a bull rider and now he is one.

The New Mexico border. We can see mountains now in the distance, so it's beginning to get fun.

This is Capulin mountain, an extinct volcano between Clayton and Raton.

I zoomed in for a closer look. You can see the road that goes to the top. We didn't take the time to ride up.

Now it feels like we're getting somewhere. We stopped for a break in Raton. It's only about 20 more miles to Trinidad.

My favorite motorcycle state.

Now we're talking. Those are some real mountains. This was taken at the state line where we stopped for a few minutes.

This was taken from in front of our motel in Trinidad.

The bikes parked in front of our rooms at the Trinidad Motor Inn.

Looking west from in front of my room.

They're tucked in so we're going to Black Jack's Saloon and Steakhouse (Black Jack's) for dinner.
