348 Miles

<< Day 4 Colorado 2007 Main Page Day 6 >>

This is the total route for the day. This was one of our longer rides while in Colorado, but it had several places where we could pick up the speed.

This is an expanded look at the first half of the route. The Grand Mesa is gorgeous. I had never been there before and didn't know what I had missed.

This is the second half. This part included going through Aspen and then Independence Pass.

Looking out my motel window. It's clear sky, but it was raining like crazy last night.

Still haven't taken the covers off the bikes.

A zoomed in look at the mountains to the north.

This was taken from the porch of the Visitor Center (Grand Mesa).

Our bikes are showing the results of all the rain we rode through yesterday. Man they're filthy.

Another shot from the Visitor Center parking lot. This area had the thickest, prettiest trees of the whole trip.

Looking down at the valley floor from atop the mesa.

This is a zoomed version of the above picture.

We're up high with the clouds and it looks like it's going to rain again.

Stopped behind a Lotus at a construction site. We talked to this guy back a ways and he was part of a Lotus rally going on over near Snowmass.

Blue Mesa Lake

The Black Canyon below the dam.

A bunch of information about the road we're about to ride.

Here's some dam information. Doesn't say anything about some dam bait or a dam guide.

This would be some good water skiing, but you might freeze if you fell in.

The bikes look a little cleaner than earlier because we rode through a rain shower a while back.

Part of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Part of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

A little closer look.

Stopped for a quick shot of the canyon. Mark didn't get off because we were trying to get back on the road before a truck coming up behind us passed.

This was a very pretty lake. There's a path down to it but it's three miles. Not up to it in by motorcycle boots.

Another shot from the same stop by the lake. You can see the road below.

Me above the lake.

Now it's Mark's turn.

Another view from the stop by the lake.

This is really nice country.

We rode through Aspen but didn't stop until we got to the ghost town of Independence.

A shot towards the old ghost town of Independence.

A little closer look.

This is a look above the ghost town.

This is a little stream above the ghost town.

Had to get the bike in this setting.

Mark's too.

Another old building in the ghost town.

Just a little further up is Independence Pass, the highest pass of the whole trip. No more pictures today. We had to put on our rain gear here. It had just started to rain and did all the way to Leadville.
