This is the route for the day. Home to Taos, New Mexico. You can zoom in or out and move the map around if you want to see more detail. We had ridden this route before which is boring. But, it's one of the quickest ways out of Texas.

Before I left home, my GPS says it's 650 miles to my destination
Although it's hard to read, my odometer is on 16,406. It was hard to focus the camera in the dark and compensate for the flash against my lighted dash. I'll check the miles when we get back.

Well it's me a little after 5:00AM ready to roll. I'll meet Mark just north of Fort Worth and off we'll be for another trip to Colorado.
Both Mark and I filled our tanks where we met, so this is our first break just north of Wichita Falls after about 125 miles.
I think we bought gas in Quanah and stopped here for a break just south of Hedley at a roadside park. One of the workers parked his pickup beside us and said "I think BMW makes the best bike, don't you?". He thought our bikes were BMW's. I told him they make a very nice bike, but these were a Honda and a Yamaha. He still didn't know the difference.

We ate lunch in Amarillo and filled our gas tanks. This is the visitor center at the New Mexico state line.

A street sign in Tucumcari. This street still has motels, restaurants that must have been there years ago when this was the main drag instead of the Interstate.
This is looking back east from the sign above.

This is a zoomed in shot from the one above. They still market Route 66.
We took a break north of Tucumcari where we're about to gain elevation.
This is Mark at the roadside stop.
From here to Taos will be pretty good riding. The roads are getting better and we can see the mountains better.
Me at the same stop.
This explains the altitude gain we're about to encounter.
We stopped in Las Vegas for a break. It's only about 75 more miles to Taos, but it's getting cloudy.
Looking south from the stop in Las Vegas. It's not cloudy in that direction but it is to the north.
We got caught in the rain. We stopped here to put on our rain gear.
Another shot at our rain stop. No more pictures today, it rained off and on the rest of the way. I didn't get any pictures in Taos because it was a downpour.
