This is the route for Day 3. Trinidad to Gunnison. This route follows the Highway of Legends just out of Trinidad. Then across the flat country to South Fork where we turned north through Creede, Lake City and then on into Gunnison.

Early in the morning at Trinidad. Last night we ate at Black Jacks Saloon and Steakhouse. We're ready for a nice ride in the mountains today.

Our first rest stop of the day. This was a really neat store at Stonewall.

This is where the town gets its name. This is a straight stone wall which covers a long distance. Kinda strange, it just sticks up there by itself.

Another look back at the store where we stopped.

Me at the stone walls.

Now Jamie at the stone walls.

This part of the wall has holes in it.

We stopped for a break in Fort Garland. We can see mountains all around us but this part of the ride is flat through the valley.

Downtown Creede. You can see that it has rained a little here. It looks like we'll get wet.

Our bike on the street in Creede.

Downtown Creede. This is a neat little town.

There's our bikes in the distance in Creede.

This is an old air pressure engine that worked like a steam engine. It used air pressure so there was no exhaust fumes in the mines.

In the background is the headwaters of the Rio Grande river. We think of the Rio Grande as a Texas river, but it is born in Colorado.

Jamie at the stop above.

Richard with our bikes at the Blue Mesa Lake. We're almost to Gunnison. About another 10 miles.

Sunset over the lake.
