Fort Worth - Crawford, Texas Loop
Saturday, 7/15
255 Miles

This was a day trip to get out for a little ride. We met in Benbrook, just southwest of Fort Worth at around 10:00AM. It was a warm day already, but we just had to ride a little. It would get much hotter before we got back home.

We took mostly back roads on this ride once we got past Granbury. Our destination was the small town of Crawford, the home of the Texas Whitehouse, where George Bush has his ranch. We didn't ride out to where his ranch is because they have guards and you can't get close enough to see anything. I actually didn't take many pictures on this ride because it was too hot when we stopped, plus there's just not much to see of any great interest in this part of Texas.

I have broken the above map down into segments so the detail can be seen better. These maps are below with an explanation.

This first part follows Hwy. 377 south to Granbury and then follows Hwy. 144 to just north of Glen Rose. These are fairly major roads so I didn't take any pictures.

This was a pretty nice section which runs on the west side of Lake Whitney and comes out at the small town of Laguna Park which is at the dam of the lake.

These were the best roads, especially after we got past Crawford. The road after going thru Clifton is one wide sweeping turn after the other, a really nice road for this part of the country. I'm thinking about going back and taking several pictures and submitting them to Ride Texas magazine. I haven't seen this road highlighted in any magazine and I think that it merits mention. It's a great road.

These were some pretty good roads also. Hwy. 51 just north of Hwy. 67 has some very tight turns. (15mph) This is unusual for this country.

This part follows Hwy 51 north to Granbury where we got back on Hwy. 377 and ultimately back to our origin at Benbrook. Below are a few photos I took on the ride.

We made a quick stop before we left Benbrook to check the pressure in Mark's tires.

Another shot of the bikes where we checked Mark's air pressure.

This billboard is just outside of Crawford. I guess Crawford's pretty proud to have them as citizens.

The City Limit sign is about 50 yards past the billboard. As you can see, Crawford is not a very large town.

This appeared to be the largest business in town. Apparently they just sell souvenirs.

This is looking north on the main street past the store. As you can see, there's not much there.

This shot is a little closer look at the store so you can read the signs.

This is across the street from the store where Mark had to buy gas. I don't think he really needed gas, I think it was just an excuse to stay in the shade for awhile.

This is Cransfills Gap. It's not exactly a tourist destination.

This is looking north out of Cranfills Gap. We stopped here to get a bottle of water. It was getting pretty hot, over 100 degrees. So, this was the last picture I took as we were ready to get back home to some air conditioning. This would be a great ride in the Spring or Fall of the year, but it's just too hot in July.
