This route took us through Durango, CO and then north to the "million dollar" highway, which is spectacular.
Great. Sunshine!!! Looks like it will be great day for riding. Loaded and ready to go at about 7:30AM in Taos.
Another shot from our motel in Taos. This is a very nice place and has reasonable rates.
This is in the lobby area of the motel. Lots of art on the wall for sale. Too high.
This is probably a matter of opinion. It is an impressive bridge spanning a very deep gorge carved by the Rio Grande River.
This is a good shot of the bridge. I don't know exactly, but it's probably at least a quarter mile long and about 500-600 feet above the river.
It's early in the morning so the sun blocks the view to the bottom. However, it's deep and goes as far as you can see in both directions.
This picture doesn't give you a good perspective of the depth of the gorge. You need to see it in person.
The license plates say New Zealand. I talked to the lady sitting on the bike in this photo. She said it was less expensive to ship their own Harleys here instead of renting some in the states. They had been here for seven of the eight weeks of their trip and had already ridden over 14,000 miles.
We've already ridden the road below. This was a very nice road.
This shot was taken at the same stop as above. Very nice country.
About to enter my favorite motorcycle riding state.
It was warming up, so we changed into our mesh suits.
Stopped for a bottle of water in Pagosa Springs.
Looking west on Hwy. 160 in Pagosa Springs.
This stream was directly behind the station where we stopped. Apparently it must never flood, else it would take out the station.
We stopped and ate lunch in Durango, but I didn't take any pictures. This is the first real high country we've been in. It's the first pass north of Durango going toward Silverton. Notice the rain covers. It's starting to rain again.
Still gaining altitude. It's also beginning to cool off.
Looking in the distance from Molas Pass.
Another shot from Molas Pass.
That's Silverton below. This is really gorgeous country, don't you think?
Same shot, but zoomed in for a closer look.
Not sure what you call this thing, but the guy said each set of pedals has 36 ratios and are independent of each other.
Looking north along Main Street in Silverton.
Red Mountain Pass between Silverton and Ouray.
It was pretty cold and rainy here so Mark didn't dismount for this photo.
Red Mountain, how this place got its name.
If you look real hard, you can see several motorcycles on the road across the way.
This is a waterfall from a little stream that goes under the road.
This is a little better angle. It probably falls about 400 feet.
Standing on the road directly above the falls.
Another small stream falling down the bluff on the opposite side of the canyon.
Mark and our bikes against a beautiful background.
That's me taken from another angle at the same area. The waterfall is just below and behind me.
This is looking toward Ouray from the same stop. I forgot to step around the corner and get a picture of the tunnel we are about to go through.
Downtown Ouray. This is a neat little town. Wish we could have spent more time there.
Looking west on Colorado 62 in Ridgway. It's gonna rain again.
This is looking back toward Ouray from Ridgway.
Looking back toward the east from Naturita where we stopped for a drink of water. It was getting warm after dropping out of the mountains and the rain had stopped.
The Utah border. It's only about 45 miles to Moab where we'll spend the night.
Looking back east from the Utah border stop.
Another shot at the Utah border. This is the last picture of the day. I'll start over again in the morning.
