<< Day 3 Glacier 2006 Main Page Day 5 >>

First half of the route for Day Four. (Terreton was approximately half way.)

Second half of the route for Day Four. Hamilton, Montana is our destination for the day.

We stayed in Montpelier, Idaho for the night. This is the next morning. We ate at Butch Cassidys the night before and breakfast this morning. The haze in the background is smoke from the wild fires in the area.

This is looking northeast across the street from our motel in Montpelier.

Our bikes in front of our rooms at the Best Western in Montpelier. This was a new motel with very cheap rates. I had gotten up first and already removed my cover.

It's just a few miles out of Montpelier to the Wyoming border. I was glad to stop here because I needed to change jackets. It was cooler than I thought.

Another shot at the Wyoming border.

I'd like to say that this is a herd of wild horses, but they seemed fairly domesticated. The three on the right are in Idaho and the rest are in Wyoming.

A few more miles and we're going back into Idaho. Are we going in circles or what?

This is Palisades Reservoir formed by the Snake River just back inside Idaho.

Mark in front of the Palisades Dam. You can see the result of the drought they are having by the low water level.

The Snake River below the dam.

This is a roadside park along the Snake River. Thought I would get another photo of the bikes.

We stopped in Idaho Falls for gas and a drink. I'm standing out front and this thing drives up. This is Mark and Tania from Alberta, Canada in their new Smart car. Mark said that it has a three cylinder diesel which gets close to 100MPG. Wow!!! These aren't available in the US yet, but should be in '07 or '08.

Another look. Mark said it runs down the road at 70mph easily.

One more look.

If you want to see how fast you can go, this is the place to do it. This road is as straight as an arrow and is over 100 miles long. Just a couple of very small towns to break it up.

On both sides you can see mountains, but this road goes right between them forever.

This is Leadore, one of the towns on this road. There were a few houses. I don't know what people do here, it's at least 50 miles to anywhere.

Another shot at Leadore looking north to where we are going. It's still straight.

Finally some better scenery and higher altitude where it is cooler.

Mark at the Montana border.

And now me at the Montana border.

Can't forget the bikes going into Montana. This was the last picture of the day before we got to Hamilton, Montana. I'll do some more tomorrow.
