289 Miles

This is the total route for the loop ride. Just follow the numbers to see how it makes a figure 8. This is great because you get to ride a portion of FM337 twice. Below this route is broken down into three sections in order to see more details including the road numbers.

First section of loop.

Third and final section of loop.

When I got up at about 6:30, it raining pretty hard.
This is looking back behind the motel. As you can see, the clouds are pretty thick.
This is looking directly across the parking lot towards Chilis. If you look closely, you can see the rain drops in the pool. We waited a while, but gave up and took off anyway.
This is the Hunt Store in Hunt, just west of Kerrville. It's an interesting place, worth a stop to look around. It's still raining.
This is one of the Guadalupe River crossings. It's high but not over the road here.
This is looking a little further downstream. It's not real high here, but over it's normal banks.
This is looking upstream from the same stop.
This is Hwy. 187. We stopped here to take a little break and enjoy the scenery. Just ahead of us the roads goes thru a deep canyon cut thru the rock. I climbed up one side for the next few photos.
I'm up on the ledge looking back toward our bikes.
This is looking ahead where we are about to go. This is really spectacular country.
This was taken from the same spot as the previous photo. I zoomed in a bit to see the road that can barely be seen it that previous photo.
Here we are at the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum just north of Vanderpool.
This is really a neat place with a very friendly staff. It also has a great snack bar. We had cheeseburgers and fries that were very good.
They have some very unique bikes here that are in great condition.
Here's another.
And another.
This is outside the museum taken from their parking lot. They are located in some beatiful country.
Another shot from their parking lot. It's still rainy. Some people that rode in as we were leaving advised us not to ride 337 to Leakey because of high water and mud on the road. We had to see for ourselves, so off we went.
This was one of the worst spots. How bad can it be when the water is only 3-4 inches deep? This is Mark riding through. I had already gone and got a picture of him crossing. Don't know what they were scared of.
You can tell they've had alot of rain recently because everything is so lush and green. It's great to look at but not the best for riding.
This is another shot along Hwy. 337. This is one of the best motorcycle roads in Texas, no doubt.
Another look along 337.
This was taken from the service station parking lot in Leakey where we gassed up. Look at that blue sky.
Crossing the Nueces River on 335. This road rivals 337 for riding. I wish I had stopped earlier but I didn't notice in time that there was a field fenced in with Kangaroos. Don't know how they got to Texas, but there they were.
Looking upstream from the shot before.
Another look from the previous spot.
Another look from the previous spot.
Yet another shot from that spot.
Both of the bikes at the Nueces River.
An impressive bluff on Hwy 336. I think if you stay in the 330's, as far a roads go, you'll have a great ride.
Mark's bike in front of another bluff on 336.
The historical marker refers to the last Commanche indian massacre in the area.
Came up on this between Center Point and Comfort.
Upon further investigation, this is what we found. As you can see, it was much higher shortly before. It had actually been about 20 feet further up from where I was standing while taking this picture.
Back at the motel, covered in the rain again.
Looking across the parking lot at the thick clouds once again.
This was taken from the balcony at dusk with the flash on. The white spots are rain drops reflecting the flash. The next one is without the flash.
This was taken from the same spot as the photo above. Here I turned the flash off and opened the aperture to get more light and I don't see the raindrops. This is the last shot of the day. Time to go eat some German food for dinner.
