Amarillo to Palo Duro Canyon

This is the route for the second day; Amarillo to the canyon and then back to Canyon for the night. We packed our lunch in the ice chest because we didn't know if there was anything available in the park. Later we found a visitor center (not the main one) that has a grill. So if you go on your motorcycle you don't have to worry about going hungry.

Just about 30 miles south of Amarillo is the entrance to the park.

Jamie at the start of the Lighthouse trail. We hiked this trail to the Lighthouse formation, the most recognized feature in the park. The trail is about 6 miles round trip.

And now me at the trailhead. It took a little less than 3 hours to make the round trip.

Anyone from TCU should have interest in this photo. These used to be very common all over Texas, but I probably hadn't seen one in 30 years. This one was large and seemed in very good condition.
