Palo Pinto Lake Loop - New Tires
Saturday, 10/28
248 Miles

This is a map of the loop that we rode. It's nothing spectacular, but at least it gave me a chance to check out my new tires. I replaced the original Dunlops at 9,411 miles with Michelin Pilot Roads and had to give them a break-in ride.

We planned a loop that would take us by Palo Pinto Lake west of Fort Worth. My youngest son, Bryan, was spending the weekend at the lake with some firends, so we thought we would stop by and see them on our ride. Plus, the countryside in really nice out that way. It's just off of FM4 which is very hilly and includes some great curves.

Bryan had borrowed my smoker and was cooking that day, so we thought we might get a free lunch of brisket and ribs. I didn't take many pictures, but a few follow.

This is my new front tire before I left my house. New tires are great!

And this is my new rear tire. Let's go.

We met for breakfast at the Waffle House in Benbrook. After a good pecan waffle, we took off. It was a fairly cool morning, so I was wearing the liners inside my mesh suit.

Even though the morning was cool, it warmed up rapidly. We stopped here on a little country road where I removed the liners.

Mark had to get some gas. We stopped a little place for a quick break and to gas up.

This is FM 4 just south of Palo Pinto. This is probably the best motorcycle road near Fort Worth because of the hills and curves.

My son, Bryan, on the right is the cook. He borrowed my smoker and towed it to the lake. It wasn't ready when Mark and I got there, so we didn't get a free lunch. He had a brisket, a couple of pork tenderloins and several slabs of St. Louis style spareribs in there. It sure smelled good, but we just got there too early.

That's Mark in the middle and their friend Ryan on the left. The lake property is Ryan's and they go there fairly often to spend the weekend and party. There's generally 10-15 people that spend the weekend. If you try real hard, you can figure out that they are Longhorn fans.

Here's where they practice their golf swings. They buy cheap balls by the 100's and hit them into the lake. Earlier they had a contest to see who could come closest to hitting a canoe that was padling by out in the middle.

That's the last picture of the day. I just didn't take many pictures because we have ridden out that way several times and just wanted to ride.
